Lysistrata's sound design and composition explores the physicality of sound effects and how they create sonic "bodies" by collaborating with props to produce a set of sound toys actors can explore and play with. Actors and puppets can swordfight using phalluses with squeakers inside, show excitement and disappointment using ascending and descending slide whistles, and groan and moan with rubber chickens. Lysistrata's music further incorporates these sound toys in a way inspired by musique concréte: making our sound toys the instruments themselves. Lysistrata explores sex and intimacy through rhythm, beat, physicality, buffoonery, and comically sexy sound effects and music.
